A pair o’ Harleys
March 8, 2011 by Nicki
It’s funny that because my main character in Aion is named Harleykin, many people assume I’m a biker. Actually, she’s named after one of my favorite Batman characters, Harley Quinn. I like Harleys, but don’t own one. (might be nice … someday) That said, I do LOVE their gear. Especially their boots.
What can I say? I’m a woman and I love shoes — namely BOOTS! ![]()
I had a pair many years ago and wore them until the soles literally fell off. Sadly, it ‘s hard to find a good long-lasting pair of boots. Next to some old Doc Martens (a staple in every self-disrespecting goth girl’s wardrobe don’tchaknow!), they were my absolute favorites. Well I decided that it was time to invest in another pair of good boots. My early birthday gifts to myself are the fitness trainer sessions that I mentioned last week and these beauties:

These are a pair of Harley-Davidson “Robyn” riding boots for women. I normally prefer a more ‘military’ style, but once I saw these I was smitten!
Because none of the local retailers here carried this style, I had to order online. I’ll tell you what — when my package came in, I tore into that box like a 6 year old on Christmas Day! There’s nothing like the smell of new leather. It’s easily one of my favorites!
I’ve been wearing these lovelies everywhere trying to get them broken in. So far, so good!
Once some of this weight starts dropping off, I can invest in some ‘skinnier’ (e.g. not ‘hide the fat baggy’) jeans and sport them around properly.
I’m excited.

Today’s funnies start off with these from Furry Talk:
Feline Physics Laws
Law of Cat Inertia
A cat at rest will tend to remain at rest, unless acted upon by some outside force — such as the opening of cat food, or a nearby scurrying mouse.Law of Cat Motion
A cat will move in a straight line, unless there is a really good reason to change direction.Law of Cat Magnetism
All blue blazers and black sweaters attract cat hair in direct proportion to the darkness of the fabric.Law of Cat Thermodynamics
Heat flows from a warmer to a cooler body, except in the case of a cat, in which case all heat flows to the cat.Law of Cat Stretching
A cat will stretch to a distance proportional to the length of the nap just taken.Law of Cat Sleeping
All cats must sleep with people whenever possible, in a position as uncomfortable for the people involved, and as comfortable as possible for the cat.Law of Cat Elongation
A cat can make her body long enough to reach just about any counter top that has anything remotely interesting on it.Law of Cat Obstruction
A cat must lay on the floor in such a position to obstruct the maximum amount of human foot traffic.Law of Cat Acceleration
A cat will accelerate at a constant rate, until he gets good and ready to stop.Law of Dinner Table Attendance
Cats must attend all meals when anything good is served.Law of Rug Configuration
No rug may remain in its naturally flat state for very long.Law of Obedience Resistance
A cat’s resistance varies in proportion to a human’s desire for her to do something.First Law of Energy Conservation
Cats know that energy can neither be created nor destroyed and will, therefore, use as little energy as possible.Second Law of Energy Conservation
Cats also know that energy can only be stored by a lot of napping.Law of Refrigerator Observation
If a cat watches a refrigerator long enough, someone will come along and take out something good to eat.Law of Electric Blanket Attraction
Turn on an electric blanket and a cat will jump into bed at the speed of light.Law of Random Comfort Seeking
A cat will always seek, and usually take over, the most comfortable spot in any given room.Law of Bag/Box Occupancy
All bags and boxes in a given room must contain a cat within the earliest possible nanosecond.Law of Cat Embarrassment
A cat’s irritation rises in direct proportion to her embarrassment times the amount of human laughter.Law of Milk Consumption
A cat will drink his weight in milk, squared, just to show you he can.Law of Furniture Replacement
A cat’s desire to scratch furniture is directly proportional to the cost of the furniture.Law of Cat Landing
A cat will always land in the softest place possible; often the mid- section of an unsuspecting, reclining human.Law of Fluid Displacement
A cat immersed in milk will displace her own volume, minus the amount of milk consumed.Law of Cat Disinterest
A cat’s interest level will vary in inverse proportion to the amount of effort a human expends in trying to interest him.Law of Pill Rejection
Any pill given to a cat has the potential energy to reach escape velocity.Law of Cat Composition
A cat is composed of Matter + Anti-Matter + It Doesn’t Matter.

Giving Up Wine
I was walking down the street when I was accosted by a particularly dirty and shabby looking homeless woman who asked me for a couple of dollars for dinner. I took out my wallet, got out ten dollars and asked, ‘If I give you this money, will you buy wine with it instead of dinner?’
‘No, I had to stop drinking years ago’, the homeless woman told me.
‘Will you use it to go shopping instead of buying food?’ I asked.
‘No, I don’t waste time shopping,’ the homeless woman said. ‘I need to spend all my time trying to stay alive.’
‘Will you spend this on a beauty salon instead of food?’ I asked.
‘Are you NUTS!’ replied the homeless woman. I haven’t had my hair done in 20 years!’
‘Well, I said, ‘I’m not going to give you the money. Instead, I’m going to take you out for dinner with my husband and me tonight.’
The homeless woman was shocked. ‘Won’t your husband be furious with you for doing that? I know I’m dirty, and I probably smell pretty disgusting…’
I said, ‘That’s okay. It’s important for him to see what a woman looks like after she has given up shopping, hair appointments, and wine.’
And last but not least, some Iron Bowl humor courtesy of Teresa:
Bad storm brewing!!!!
The National Weather Service in Mobile, Alabama is following a hurricane developing in the Gulf of Mexico said to be the size of Mount Cody with Ingram-sized hail and Julio lighting. The storm is moving at Richardson speeds and has McClain-force winds. If you are in the Auburn area you can kiss your ass good-bye, ’cause the Tide is gonna be rolling in.

This one is from my mother:
A husband and wife were shopping in their local Wal-Mart. The husband picked up a case of Budweiser and put it in their cart.
‘What do you think you’re doing?’ asked the wife.
‘They’re on sale, only $10 for 24 cans.’
‘Put them back, we can’t afford them.’
A few aisles further on along the woman picked up a $20 jar of face cream and put it in the basket.
‘What do you think you’re doing?’ asked the husband.
‘Its my face cream. It makes me look beautiful.’
‘So does 24 cans of Budweiser and its half the price.’
On the PA system: ‘Cleanup needed on aisle 25, we have a husband down’
This one comes courtesy of one of my WOSIB sisters:
A cat died and went to Heaven. God met her at the gates and said, ‘You have been a good cat all these years. Anything you want is yours for the asking.’
The cat thought for a minute and then said, ‘All my life I lived on a farm and slept on hard wooden floors. I would like a real fluffy pillow to sleep on.’
God said, ‘Say no more.’ Instantly the cat had a huge fluffy pillow.
A few days later, six mice were killed in an accident and they all went to Heaven together. God met the mice at the gates with the same offer that He made to the cat.
The mice said, ‘Well, we have had to run all of our lives: from cats, dogs, and even people with brooms! If we could just have some little roller skates, we would not have to run again.’
God answered, ‘It is done.’ All the mice had beautiful little roller skates.
About a week later, God decided to check on the cat. He found her sound asleep on her fluffy pillow. God gently awakened the cat and asked, ‘Is everything okay? How have you been doing? Are you happy?’
The cat replied, ‘Oh, it is WONDERFUL. I have never been so happy in my life. The pillow is so fluffy, and those little Meals on Wheels you have been sending over are delicious!’
Ode to Cute

Had a good weekend. Jim, Jess, and I went down to Prattville and saw Jim’s mother. We did a bit of shopping, sight-seeing, and had some really awesome barbecue (I’m talking giving Green Top a run for its money good!!!). It rained all the way down there, and all the way back. I’m so sick of all this rain, it’s giving me headaches out the wazoo.
I woke up this morning with a headache and have been in a bit of a mood. Traffic was unreal this morning, so I was late to work. I stayed up late last night watching the Armageddon/2012 specials on the History channel, so I’m tired and a little cranky. (and when I don’t get enough sleep, I’m more prone to having a headache!)
I did get a little happy moment this morning … this bit of cute was posted to my friend Sangi’s LiveJournal:
Beaker was always one of my favorite Sesame Street characters, and I thought that was just too cute not to share!
Shopping power, I has it

Chico’s is one of my favorite places to shop. Not only do their clothing hold up and wash well, they fit and feel great. Even better: their unique sizes will make ANY woman feel good about herself (no matter what size you wear!).
I was overjoyed when I got home yesterday and read my mail. My membership has finally been upgraded!
Basically what this means is I’ll get extra benefits now, like: previews to sales and new collections, 5% off all my future purchases, free shipping (basic), and more. They also own Soma (think Victoria Secret), so it looks like I can use the card there too. My folks gave me a gift card to Chico’s for Christmas, and I’ve been itching to go get some new “going out” clothes and a few frilly numbers (sexy lingerie, squeee!).
I showed the card to Jim and said, “Guess what I’m doing this weekend!”

Jessie’s DS, and I has a LOL…
Jessie’s birthday was Saturday, but because her mother had her that day, we celebrated the night before by taking her out to a “very grown up” birthday dinner — at Logan’s Roadhouse.
We had a great time. Our waitress was a real sweetheart and hooked her up with a couple small goodies because it was her birthday. Towards the end of our meal, all the servers came around and clapped and hollered for her. She ate it up!
She opened our gifts after we ate. We gave her a crimson Nintendo DS with a Legend of Zelda game bundle. She freaked! LOL! She kept hugging the box saying “I knew it! I knew it! I knew I was getting this! I knew it!” She was so cute.
Of course now she’s got a lengthy game “wish list” going. Both Jim’s mom and my parents gave her money for her birthday, so now she’s DYING to go shopping! LOL! But at least she’s happy … she finally got her DS.
What’s that about a LOL?
While looking for a stock image for this post, I ran across a very cute image and was inspired to publish my first (PUBLIC!) LOLcat:

Summertime approaches
April 28, 2008 by Nicki
Summer is almost in full swing. Jessie’s heading into her last month — well, really 3 weeks — left of school and she’s SO ready for summer to get here! She and Jim have this deal, if she brings home straight A’s on her report card, he will get her the Nintendo DS and Dogs game she’s been wanting.
She’s worked REALLY hard this nine weeks, and if she’s not spot on, it will be close! She had a shaky start at the beginning of the year and this is the first year that she did not spend the whole time on an Honor Roll at all. (until this year, she’d always had straight A’s) I’m really proud of her, she found her motivation (a game system/video game … what a wonderful little geekling!) and has not let up, going full tilt boogie studying and making sure her homework was always checked for mistakes.
This geeky momma is so proud!
Her class is going to the Zoo next week, and guess who is chaperoning. Yup, yours truly. (Don’t worry, I’ll pack body armor and mace!
) She’s excited to have me coming along, and I’m just as equally excited to be going. She’s still in that cute stage where it’s OK for me to be around while she’s sitting and talking to her friends … I’d better enjoy it while it lasts! LOL!!
Shopping!
Jim and I will hopefully be resuming furniture shopping soon. The new bed is almost paid off and we now need a new mattress. We’ve been to several places and found that we both liked one of the Serta models. We tried out the Tempur-pedic from one place, but you know? I was surprised to find that I really don’t care for the memory foam mattresses.
After that, we’ll probably get a new couch, but that may have to wait until we get a new house — the den is pretty cramped as it is! We got a new dining room table from my grandmother, and we both have odds and ends still in storage.
Part of me thinks it’ll be kind of fun re-arranging and replacing everything. The ‘paying for it’ part still sucks though. ;P
Busy time and upcoming schedule of events
It’s busy time! Sorry I’ve been so quiet lately, work is busy, home is busy, and what little spare time I’ve had has been for cooking, eating, and sleeping — and pretty much in that order. Jessie’s into her last semester of the school year. Things are starting to pick back up at work. Jim’s really busy at NSR.
Coming up
My birthday is next week. Considering nobody’s asked me what I want yet, I’m hoping for something to go shopping with. *grin* Though cash would be nice … I’ve been eying a very nice Smith & Wesson .38 special.
Things with Soldiers’ Angels has been going great! I’ve been gathering materials for the upcoming Magnolia Festival and will have everything I need for the event mid next week. I’m looking forward to meeting people from this and neighboring communities and will hopefully gain some new SA members from it!
Time to roll, Tide!
Alabama’s A-Day Game is this upcoming weekend, so Jess and I will be headed to T-town to meet up with Teresa and her loved ones. I’ll be gathering a few travel supplies over the next few days and (if Jim lets me borrow his camera) hopefully get some great A-Day pictures!
Time to design
I noticed on the Lunarpages blog a week or so back that they are having another WordPress design contest. YAY!
I’ve started on a few designs to enter, and will post a sneak peek of the first one here when it’s ready (hopefully this weekend, but realistically early next week).
Cleaning house
Jim and I had a pretty busy weekend. I’ve spent the last few days recovering from a mentally exhausting week (last week) and physically exhausting weekend. Jim and I bought a new bed Friday night. Well, actually the first two pieces to a whole bedroom suite. We had visited several furniture stores, but kept coming back to Ashley and we both loved the bed and matching pieces.
I swear, I think I signed more paperwork there than I did when I bought my car!
So we’ve been cleaning OUT the house, getting rid of older furniture and things we don’t need. We also cleaned out our storage space and are planning to move a lot of the “must keep’s” there until we move into a bigger place.
I’m anxiously waiting for the day when we can “officially” start house shopping.
