I’ve been through so many books over the past few months, I need to review them all. This is the most recent addition to my collection, published back in 2011. It’s new to ME!
The last couple of months have been difficult for reasons I won’t go into. I decided Friday that I needed something light and fluffy to lift my mood. I had just finished a book that left me feeling particularly bereft (I’ll review once I eventually finish the series), and needed something to make me feel better.
One of my favorite “lighter” authors is Kristen Painter. She has written several series that are comfort reads of mine, such as Midlife Fairy Tale, everything in the Nocturne Falls universe, and my absolute favorite: First Fangs Club. She has a TON that I haven’t read yet, but I love her writing style and plan to read more of hers in the future.
Anyways, Amazon had recommended a standalone novel of hers: Dark Kiss of the Reaper. It’s a bit older than other works of hers I’d enjoyed, but it sounded like a good heart warmer. I bought, downloaded, read, and finished it Friday night. It was definitely what I needed. Her stories tend to wrap up with happy endings, which I realize isn’t everyone’s cup of vodka, but when the world gets to be too much, her stories are happy escapes for me. Sassy heroines, hunky leading men, sometimes paranormal, sometimes just sweet. Always enjoyable.
Dark Kiss of the Reaper is a light and funny read. I kind of wish she’d fleshed it out into a series because I would loved to have read more on the leading man’s brothers. But for what it is, it was what I needed.
Cute, lots of banter, and light mythology (which I always love!). Very much recommended.
