So this weekend I finished “A Curse of Beasts and Magic” by Jeaniene Frost, the first in her new “Beautiful and Beastly” series that I’d preordered as soon as it was announced. I hadn’t had a chance to sit down and read it until now.
The wait was worth it.
A modern take on “Beauty and the Beast,” I enjoyed this new work of hers immensely! I’m already drooling in anticipation of the next book, and thanks to ACBM, I have a new favorite phrase: “chicken-fried fucked.” :)
I’ve long been a fan of Frost’s previous works, specifically the “Night Huntress” series and its wider universe additions. I had first found a review for “Once Burned” while tumbling down a rabbit hole looking up something about Vlad Tepes. I fell in LOVE with the story and her characters, buying each next book after devouring the previous. (Cat and Bones are near and dear to my heart, but I will forever be team Leila and Vlad! ♥)
“Night Huntress” and company are what I consider “comfort reads” — I read and re-read them over and over, especially when everything gets to be too much for me. I’m hoping the “Beautiful and Beastly” series is half as good as all her other faves of mine. I like to re-read an entire series leading up to a sequel’s release, and am looking forward to re-reading “A Curse of Beasts and Magic” when its sequel drops.
