(x-posted to BYKYC)
In a little over a week WordPress 2.2 will be released, April 22nd to be exact. It will be an evolutionary release, with not too much changing, but a few improvements that might make some people happy.
- Tagging support
- Permalink redirection
- Improved comment editing
- phpmailer was integrated
- Atom 1.0 support for feed
- Atom API support
- Additional XML-RPC APIs for pages and such
I was hoping for something more, but with a 120 day release cycle, I guess there is only so much time to add new features and make sure they work correctly.
Personally, I’m glad to see they’re finally adding tagging support, though I’ve been manually handling mine for years. The Atom support will be nice too! Definitely interested in seeing the improved comment editing.
One of these days, I am going to have my own domain, and learn to play around with ‘real’ publishing tools like WordPress. I just can’t justify the expense for my little vanity site. But it would sure be neat!
All freakin’ ready? It seems like I just get one system figured out when they roll out the next one. I moved one of my blogs to wordpress.com just because I was getting tired of doing the upgrades.
No matter. It looks like the improvements made in 2.1 will be well worth the transition.
DSB: Hosting costs me about $4 a month, and my host has $1.99 domain registering when I sign up for the hosting as well. I made the switch about 8 months ago, and haven’t looked back since.
LOL, Rick. I thought of you when I posted this and said to myself, “Rick’s gonna shit kittens!” ;)
DSB: If you wanna “test drive” WordPress, they offer free blog accounts on WordPress.com – it’s a bit restricted but you can get the general feel for how the software looks and functions. :)
Thanks, Rick! Who hosts your domain?
Nicki, I think I have a wordpress sort of ‘test’ blog (if I haven’t lost the username and password for it), but I couldn’t play around with design not being a premium member….and that (so sad, I know) is my main concern.
Blogger actually meets all my needs except an email input function so that I can respond to comments via email.
