While you were away …

Well, a lot has happened since I slept through this weekend (metaphorically speaking, of course). The Bluegrass Festival was Saturday, but due to the haze and amount of sheer crap in the air — and the fact that I had been out in it all day — I was in no shape to go Saturday night, which was a huge disappointment. Oh well, perhaps next year there will be no Georgia fires polluting our air … or perhaps the rain will hold off longer? :???:

I finished the tail-end fixings of my fouled-up WordPress upgrade last night. I have replaced the slider/hide script in my sidebar with a modified version of the one that came with the iMP-Links plugin. It’s a lot easier on older browsers and will save your preferences (using cookies) so that any section you had “open” will stay that way upon your return to this site. Neat huh? ;)

(To the user who requested a copy of my modified code: I haven’t forgotten about you, I promise!)

I noticed this morning that the lads at Zooomr have overcome their recent Mark III launch woes, but I have not yet had time to go through my account and play with all the new toys. Glad to see y’all back, guys!

Work is going swell. I’m learning a lot and so far haven’t fouled up anything too bad. LOL! I’ve been doing mostly classic ASP stuff and SharePoint on the side. This week is probably going to be SP-heavy, so I’m really looking forward to that.

I have more car drama to add, but will save that until (hopefully!!) the final items are taken care of this week. Now we’re focusing on getting the wedding details hammered out, and already looking at things around the house to spruce up … I’d like to spend this summer working on my wall garden, whereas Jim is talking about working on the patio (last night, he was all about teak outdoor furniture, LOL!).

I brokeddeddit :)

As Jessie used to say when she was little, “I brokededdit!” (pronounced ‘broked-dead-dit’ LOL)

I finally upgraded to WordPress 2.2 but unfortunately it seems to have fubar’d a few of my plugins, including my beloved WP-CaTT and the javascript slide/hide thingy on my sidebar, so guess what I’ll be doing tonight, tomorrow, or however long it takes me? ;)

In the meantime, things are going well with the new job. I endured “Diversity Training” yesterday which is (I hope) the last of my “newbie” training sessions. For now, anyways.

Now if only I could find where all the good gel pens are stashed! ;)

Today I was lucky enough to catch up with Glas, a friend of mine who also works for UAB. Had a yummy BLT and some faboo hummus dip ‘n pita slices at the always entertaining Mellow Mushroom on Southside. (YUM!)

I hopped on over to Zooomr’s site earlier this afternoon and saw that they are still experiencing technical difficulties in getting Release Mark III launched.

Poor guys. Keep your chin up! I still lub y’all!

In case you Firefox users hadn’t already been notified, the latest updates were quietly released in the early hours yesterday. So far I haven’t experienced any issues with existing plugins … I think most everything was either already compatible or already updated.

YAY!

At least tomorrow’s Friday. The annual Bluegrass Festival is going on at the Civic Center in Gardendale Saturday night, so I might go slink over that way and catch the show. Last year’s was a blast, and I’m hoping to get more pictures this time. :)

A treat for you ‘Bama fans

May 3, 2007 by

My mother was able to get copies of these pictures from a lady she works with. My brother was kind enough to allow access to his online photo site so I could see and snag them.

These are photos of Coach Bear Bryant at Legion Field. The opponent is LSU — if you look closely, you can see a few fans in the background wearing the tell-tale purple and gold. There’s also one shot with the LSU tiger mascot next to Bear. The exact date is unknown, but if I had to guess it’s in the late 70′s, most probably 1978 (Alabama played LSU at Legion field that year). Unfortunately there is only one shot with any players in the picture, and I am unable to make out their names. I also have not yet found a roster for the 1978-79 year so until I get some additional information, I’m just guessing here.

Anyways, I figured many of you would get a kick out of these. I’ve just now finished uploading the images and if the set doesn’t display correctly, give it a minute or two and try the link again:

Slept so long

May 3, 2007 by

Had a busy day yesterday … two interviews, pretty much back-to-back, on two opposite sides of town. I was on the go pretty much all day yesterday. By the time I got in last night I crashed … and crashed hard.

I have such a good man … Jim woke me up around 10 or so last night by leaning over and making faces at me until I opened my eyes. LOL! I had forgotten to take my medicine before going to bed, so he elected to wake me — in his usual “special” way. ;)

And boy was I tired! Night before, I think I was so afraid of oversleeping that I was waking up about every hour and would sit up to check the time on the clock. I finally got up 30 minutes before the alarm was supposed to go off so I could get ready. I slept through Jim getting up and getting ready this morning and finally woke up when the phone rang around 9:30.

I’m surprised I heard it, LOL!

Both interviews went pretty well. One of them has already called me back for a second one Monday morning. Still no update from <prospective hopeful> yet. :( At this rate, I’ll most likely have an offer from another company before the proverbial red tape (or whatever the hold up is) is cleared. Oh well, can’t complain … I need a job. ;P

I had just over 300 new entries in my Google Reader this morning … I think it’s time to clear out some more feeds. LOL I don’t think I read but about a quarter of them. Most of the tech feeds I skipped over … a good majority was about the hubbub on Digg anyways.

I’m in the process of uploading some old photos to my Zooomr account now. I had been meaning to do this for ages, and now since I have the time and have organized most of them, I can upload and arrange into sets as needed (I do LOVE that feature!).

I <3 Zooomr :D

Minor irritation with Zooomr

April 11, 2007 by

I love Zooomr and have been a big supporter of their services (as opposed to Flickr, Photobucket, et. al.), but I keep running into a problem that I had honestly hoped would have been fixed by now.

Earlier today, I created a little button for linking to Ben‘s Geek on a Bike. I uploaded said button to my Zooomr account and it was resized to two smaller sizes — at first it was no big deal, it automatically creates resized versions of my photos in various sizes. The problem was that it did not keep the original size.

I’ve run into this before, prior to their recent “update” … I simply assumed that the issue was being addressed and was being fixed. Ok, that’s what I get for assuming. I surfed around on the Zooomr site, looking for a help page. Nothing found. I found a reference to their technical support personnel on one page, but there was no contact form, phone number, email address, … nothing.

At this point I’m really irritated. Honestly, I’d expect this from Google or UPS!

Either it’s a bug, or there’s a minimum size limitation that is not documented ANYWHERE on the site. I ended up putting the image on one of my Photobucket accounts that I use mostly for Neopets and free theme sharing. Searching through the last year or so’s worth of emails, I was able to locate my original signup email which listed a feedback email address from Zooomr’s owner/holding company, so I fired off an email asking to where or whom I should report problems with the Zooomr service.

After all, there is a very slight snowball’s chance in hell that they may not know this problem exists … but I won’t hold my breath.

Smurfed from Beth’s site: you can upgrade your Zooomr account to Pro for free by uploading a photo and posting it to your blog.

Sweeeeeeet!

So this is my upgrade post.

A pic of me and Jessie in Huntsville a few years ago.
