Cut the fat and LOL it up!
March 27, 2008 by Nicki
Oh my, WordPress, you’ve gotten fat!
I’ve been trying to clean up this blog: deleting old pages that aren’t contributing to the site, inactivating and deleting old plugins that are no longer needed (or that I can live without), … etc. I think the hardest part is trying to figure out why I needed some plugins. One is RunPHP. I know I *had* to have it at one point but honestly do not remember if it’s still in use … so I’m currently investigating that one. I may just end up deactivating and waiting a week or so to make sure nothing breaks before deleting it entirely from my Plugins directory.
So if you see something broken … please let me know. Chances are, it’s probably be something I shouldn’t have fiddled with!
In the meantime, I was commenting on Devilish Southern Belle’s blog and noticed a link to Lucia’s Linky Love. It’s a souped up ‘no follow’ plugin for WordPress that has other “do-gooder” functions, like kicking trackback spam to the curb. YAY! I’ll most likely dump Denis de Bernardy’s Dofollow for it. (Sorry, Denis!)
DSB also uses Feedjit. I had kept meaning to check it out, but couldn’t remember the URL once I sat down to research … so, now I got it again. Heh.
LOL it up!
And something totally un-related to this: ICHC LOLcats will now be appearing on Jones Soda bottles. I’ll have to buy some just to get the “LOL-bottles”!!!

You know, I think I may just turn my weekly humor posts into a meme-roll.

I zonked out last night (literally!) and didn’t get a chance to share that TheFanListings.org has finally approved my ICHC fanlisting.

Daily LOLs
April 29, 2007 by Nicki
I’m a lover of “teh funny” as a friend of mine likes to say. Every day, I read my funny pages and various feed subscriptions, including I Can Has Cheezburger? and Cookie’s Cook Shack: Gab & Grub (I think I originally subscribed to this one for recipes, but he posts a LOT of funny things!
).
It’s no secret that I’m probably most fond of both of those sites, as I re-post things from both of them pretty often.
For instance, here are a couple of cute things that Cookie’s posted over the past couple of days:
Why Is It That We Have to Speak English?
A U.S. Navy Admiral was attending a Naval conference that included admirals from the U.S., English, Canadian, Australian and French Navies. At a cocktail reception, he found himself standing with a group of half dozen or so officers that included personnel from most of the countries.
Everyone was chatting away in English as they sipped their drinks but a French admiral suddenly complained that, whereas Europeans learn many languages, Americans learn only English. He then asked: “Why is it that we always have to speak English in these conferences rather than speaking French?”
Without hesitating, the American Admiral replied: “Maybe it’s because the Brits, Canadians, Aussies and the Americans arranged it so you wouldn’t have to speak German.”
The group became suddenly quiet.
LOL!! I especially love this one:
I just loves Retirement …
Working people frequently ask retired people what they do to make their days interesting.
Well, for example, the other day I went downtown and went into a shop. I was only in there for about 5 minutes and when I came out, there was a cop writing out a parking ticket. I went up to him and said, “Come on, man, how about giving a retired person a break”? He ignored me and continued writing the ticket.
I called him a “Nazi.” He glared at me and started writing another ticket for having worn tires. So I called him a “doughnut eating Gestapo.”
He finished the second ticket and put it on the windshield with the first. Then he started writing a third ticket. This went on for about 20 minutes.
The more I abused him, the more tickets he wrote.
Personally, I didn’t care. I came downtown on the bus, and the car that he was putting the tickets on had a bumper sticker that said “Hillary in ‘08.”
I try to have a little fun each day now that I’m retired. It’s important to my health …
I’m thankful to have discovered ICHC not only because of the cute kitty images blasted to me on a daily basis, because for the most part they are family-friendly so I can share them with Jessie too.
Something I’ve noticed that they do is post “Caturday” themed images each Saturday. Yesterday’s was particularly adorable.
In fact, I’ve filed an application with thefanlistings.org and started building a ICHC fanlisting site.
Preview:
It’s not public yet, as the fanlisting hasn’t yet been approved. BUT I will post again when it’s opened.
I know exactly how he feels …

I had a horrible headache last night and unfortunately woke up this morning and still had it.
I’m sure it has something to do with the rain. Every time we have rain that just seems to linger on, I get a headache. One doctor told me that it had something to do with the barometric pressure going up and down … I don’t care what it is, just make it go away! ;P
Not a whole lot happening on the job front. I had a couple of places leave me messages today, which is pretty good because for a while I wasn’t hitting anything. One was from a recruiter in Hoover, another from some company in California that offers telecom audit services. (not sure why THEY contacted me, as I couldn’t find a local office for them *shrug*) Well, if anything that’s another coupla leads while I’m waiting on *prospective hopeful* to call me back!
I slept off and on all day, so those of you who left msgs and/or emailed, I’ll get to it eventually. ;P Lucky for me I got a good man … Jim “cooked” dinner tonight. (Hooray, BK! LOL)

Twitter Terms, Kitty Cuteness, and a Last.fm Twitter How-To
April 2, 2007 by Nicki
Yes, I’m amusing myself far too much with this thing! LOL
I ran across some Twitter-related terminology via the San Fransisco Chronicle:
- Twitterer: A user of Twitter.
- Twittering: To send a Twitter message.
- Twittermob: An unruly and ragtag horde of people who descend on an ill-prepared location after a provocative Twitter message.
- Twittercal mass: A community that has achieved a critical mass of twitterers.
- Twittermaps: A mashup technology that lets Twitter users find each other using Google maps.
- Twitterrific and Twitteroo: Two services that let users post to Twitter using a Mac or PC.
- Twitterpated: To be overwhelmed with Twitter messages.
- Twitterrhea: The act of sending too many Twitter messages.
Here’s some funnies I ran across while surfing through the Twitter Fan Wiki (cats):
A quick “how to” for anyone wanting to display their Recent Tracks:
- Visit Last.fm’s Data Feeds page and grab the RSS URI listed under Recent Tracks: www.last.fm/tools/feeds
- Hop on over to Twitter Feed and login: twitterfeed.com
- Click “Create new twitter feed” and add the RSS URI for your Recent Tracks and set to the desired update frequency
Voila!
When you first add the feed, it will post only the first entry from the feed. All entries after that are added separately.
