Humpday Hilarities
September 24, 2008 by Nicki
This one was sent to me by one of my co-workers:
Bad programmer, BAD!
For a computer programming class, I sat directly across from someone, and our computers were facing away from each other. A few minutes into the class, she got up to leave the room.
I reached between our computers and switched the inputs for the keyboards. She came back and started typing and immediately got a distressed look on her face. She called the tutor over and explained that no matter what she typed, nothing would happen.
The tutor tried everything. By this time I was hiding behind my monitor and quaking red-faced. I typed, “Leave me alone!”
They both jumped back as this appeared on their screen. “What the…” the tutor said. I typed, “I said leave me alone!”
The kid got real upset. “I didn’t do anything to it, I swear!”
It was all I could do to keep from laughing out loud. The conversation between them and ‘HAL 2000′ went on for an amazing five minutes.
Me: “Don’t touch me!”
Her: “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to hit your keys that hard.”
Me: “Who do you think you are anyway?!” Etc.
Finally, I couldn’t contain myself any longer, and fell out of my chair laughing. After they had realized what I had done, they both turned beet red. Funny, I never got more than a C- in that class.
New WordPress Theme: Vista-Like
September 23, 2008 by Nicki
This is another theme that I have been working on over the past several months. It is also my second theme featuring a few customization options. This one gives you the choice of three different header images (with matching side images and background colors).
Details

Thank you, Christopher Blizzard. I accept your challenge!
So here’s me at work:

The challenge:
- Take a picture of yourself right now.
- Don’t change your clothes, don’t fix your hair (or makeup!) … just take a picture.
- Post that picture with NO editing.
- Post these instructions with your picture.
Yes, you read that correctly — NO EDITING!
Why I love NASCAR
September 19, 2008 by Nicki
My husband loves NASCAR. I mean he REALLY loves it. I’m sure if it were possible, he’d watch it 24-7-365. He follows NASCAR like I follow WordPress, Firefox, and Alabama football.
I mean, as a sport, it’s “OK”. (Hey, it’s not football! *g*) It’s fun to go to NASCAR events, but I can’t sit and watch it every week like he does. That said, I do tell people that I love NASCAR — and I do, but not for the reasons that most people think.

Iraq Veterans Humble NASCAR Drivers
Kyle Busch, Greg Biffle and other NASCAR drivers and team owners visited soldiers Thursday at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center. They walked through the hospital wards and talked with the wounded, signed autographs, posed for pictures, and for Biffle, gained perspective.
“Everytime I come here, it’s a pretty overwhelming experience,” said Biffle … “This is my fifth year in a row coming. To see the dedication that these men and women have that have served our country and continue to serve our country, it makes you feel pretty small.
“Compared to what they have done and what they do for us … its a pretty grounding experience I think for all of us.”.

If for no other reason, I love NASCAR because NASCAR loves our men and women in uniform.
New WordPress Theme: Furry Family
September 19, 2008 by Nicki
This is a theme I’ve spent the last several months tinkering with. I had wanted to create a theme with customization options — more specifically, different color schemes and header images for the user to choose from. I had struggled getting the options to “stick” and recently ran across this how-to which showed me a round-abouts way to get it done (think going through Atlanta to get to Texas). But it took a hand from Otto42 in the WordPress forums to get me straightened out and back on track. (Thank you, Otto!)
I’m toying around with the idea of modifying some of my previous themes to have multiple looks and/or other options. This will take time — something I’ve not had an abundance of lately, so we’ll see …
I’ve held off on “publicly” releasing this theme until after it was approved by the kind (and extremely patient, LOL!) editors at WordPress’ Theme Directory — however, it has been available on my themes page for a short while. Now that the theme is available via the WordPress Theme Directory, I’m announcing it to the Blogosphere!
So without further ado …
