Spotted on the way back from lunch

January 16, 2008 by

I had walked down to the Purple Onion to grab lunch and on the way back, I was reading the bumper stickers on the cars parked along the side. One of them caught my eye immediately:

“Not a piece of (meat)”

I was introduced to this amazing group via Jen, of my Ladies Night Out meetup group. It’s great seeing support here and there like that!

I don’t think they have a “real website”, but they are on MySpace if any of you locals are interested in attending and/or supporting one of their events: www.myspace.com/notapieceof

I wonder if you might ask them who it’s Ok to make disparaging
remarks about? Straight white males, conservatives, Republicans
and the devoutly religious? I just love free speech and political
    correctness.

@ Uncle Monster-Not A Piece of Meat is a fundraising campaign supporting the Rape Crisis Center here in Birmingham. It is not about being P.C. but empowering women and raising awareness about rape.

Wes my boy, you must temper your reaction to anything I write with
the understanding that it is done with the muscular taste sensing
food manipulator applying a firm outward pressure to the fleshy covering of my jaw. From the site:
“not a piece a meat is taking a stand against gender violence. this includes sexual violence against women and men, sexual harassment and bullying. we believe in bystander empowerment. we want to help people take a stand when they hear sexist or homophobic comments. ” Sorry, perhaps I don’t understand English.
