Local Woman Sues Starbucks because of “Hot Coffee”
A local woman is suing Starbucks for $50,000 because she claims her coffee was too hot.
Rhonda Lusco claims she was burned by coffee she purchased at a Starbucks on Highway 280.
Lusco says she allowed the coffee an adequate amount of time to cool, but when some of the beverage spilled on her stomach it caused second degree burns that required medical treatment.
Lusco is seeking 50 thousand dollars in damages because she claims Starbucks made the product unreasonably dangerous to the consumer.
Hey, stupid, it’s coffee … it’s SUPPOSED to be HOT!
Speaking of links…
A while back when Jim and I were discussing honeymoon options, I had bookmarked some links that featured Virgin Island yacht charters. Someone I used to work with went on her honeymoon to one of these places and went on and on about how lovely everything was.
Here’s a few pics I snagged off the ‘net:
Pretty, huh? Yeah, that’s definitely a place I’d mark down on my “To Do Someday” list.
An interesting bit of history I ran across while looking for pics:
Here is a bit of history on the US Virgin Islands – The original inhabitants of the islands were the tribes, Carib, Ciboney, and Arawaks. It was Christopher Columbus who christened them “Virgin Islands”, after Saint Ursula and her virgin followers, during his second voyage to the American continent in 1493. In the next three hundred odd years, the islands would come under various European powers, and Denmark being the main rulers.
The Danish West India Company settled in St Johns in 1672, and later on St John in 1694, before purchasing St Croix as well from the French in 1733. Subsequently, the islands were declared the Royal Danish Colonies in 1754 and a thriving sugar cane industry fuelled its economy in the 18th and early 19th centuries.
During the World War I, fearing Germany would set up a submarine base in these islands, United States approached Denmark with a request to sell the islands to them. Willingly, or fearing a military action by the US in the event of an emergency, which looked like a good possibility given the political conditions of the then Europe, something one never knew, Denmark agreed for the trade off and subsequently US gained possession of the Danish West Indies by paying $25 million to the Danish government. The inhabitants of the islands were given US citizenship in 1927.
Hrm, learn something new every day …

I was going through my favorite “stumbled” links, trying to find that nc waterfront property link I had posted about before to send to a friend of mine moving out that way and ran across this that I had tagged and totally forgotten about:
WiiKitty.com: “Where kitties and Wii are at long last conjoined.”
How CUTE! A site chocked full of kitties and Wii systems.
Isn’t this adorable?

I used to have pictures of Hobie “wrestling” my old Nintendo stuff. I should try to dig those up sometime …
Getting closer

Jim and I started talking wedding dates again last night. He still wants to have it on the day of the Alabama / FSU game. I’m pushing for October 27th — Alabama’s by week.
I swear he’s as stubborn as a mule … Harrumph!
We have agreed on one thing though: the honeymoon (if affordable) will be an Orlando vacation, mostly Disney World and whatever else we can squeeze in. I have some family that live in Jupiter, so once we get the wedding details finalized, we can start planning the vacation/honeymoon.

hehehe, I smurfed this from Beth:
Google is comedy
Sometimes I think I should start a collection of funny Google products/incidents!
For example, I was reading Download Squad’s article about Google’s mapping to Stockholm:

How nice of Google to map out directions for a location on another continent!
I wish I had bookmarked the entry, but I remember a certain squiggle biscuit who had a Google Maps snapshot of Hell:
Now when someone tells me to go to Hell, I have directions!
Twitterpated
March 29, 2007 by Nicki
Twitterpated:
1. the happy jumpy feeling you get that causes you to smile uncontrollably.
2. the way birds and other animals act during mating season (as seen in Bambi)1. Vianne gets twitterpated when Marcos touches her cheek.
2. “The birds gettin’ all twitterpated,” said the owl. (Disney’s Bambi really is a good movie.)
I’m sure most of you have heard about Twitter by now. Personally, I don’t care to know what my friends are doing every 30 seconds of the day, and I don’t have the time (nor interest) to update mine that frequently. However, this service could be useful in promoting blogs. I’ve seen several “auto” publishing techniques. One of which I’ve been playing with over the last week was Engtech’s “Twitterbot” Guide. Very easy to understand and use, but it meant leaving the app on my pc 24×7 and if I had to restart it, it might re-post something already on my Twitter profile. I also looked into an online auto-posting service called AutoTwit. (Named appropriately, I thought.) It’s barely beta, and I never could get it automated.
Today I discovered Victoria Chan’s Twitter updater plugin for WordPress. Works brilliantly! This plugin will allow your Twitter profile to be updated when you create a new post, publish a new post, and edit an existing post. These are, of course, configurable. HOWEVER, at the time of this post, the original plugin (as-is) does not work in WP 2.1.2. James Cridland was kind enough to post a quick code fix and an access tip here.
I’ve been playing with this for just a few minutes and I’m already impressed. (OK, I’m easy to impress ;P) It’s not like this is rocket science or selling funeral insurance. hehehehe
Anyway, I just thought I’d share for any fellow “lazy twits” out there like me! ROFL
What do you give away?
March 29, 2007 by Nicki
I was approached by a friend of mine about going in with her for a booth at this upcoming fall’s local art fair. While I’m awaiting more details and the cost, I figured it would be a good opportunity to get some exposure for some of my newer pieces — I have several inked and painted works that I’ve done over the past year (many of them while Jim was in the hospital!). I had even started designing new fliers to hand out with my business cards.
This got me wondering though. Most everyone gives out things like that: a flier or a card of some sort. I’m wondering if I should look into giving something else out? Maybe something useful — a magnet with my info on it, or perhaps some logo pens?
What do you give out when promoting your works?
TV for sleepies
March 29, 2007 by Nicki
LOL, that’s what Jessie calls what I watch sometimes: “TV for sleepies” — as in programs so boring they put you to sleep? LOL
What can I say? I have pretty selective tastes when it comes to what shows I watch. I love CSI and all of the Law and Order series. But most of the time you’ll find me watching something on the Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, or the History Channel. I can’t help it, they show cool (and yet educational) stuff!
The Discovery Channel has a show I’ve recently discovered called “How It’s Made” where you’re shown how all kinds of things are made as well as any historical snippings. For instance, I watched one yesterday that gave some background into how grain-based alcohols are made and when/how they were discovered. I watched one last night showing how cola is bottled, suits of armor are made, and how makeup mirrors are made.
Yeah, yeah, I know … not exactly the most exciting stuff. But sometimes I do run across something really neat on these “snooze tv” shows.
