I’m finding lots of “funnies” today. ;)

From Ananova: A Slovak man trapped in his car under an avalanche freed himself by drinking 60 bottles of beer and urinating on the snow to melt it.

Rescue teams found Richard Kral drunk and staggering along a mountain path four days after his Audi car was buried in the Slovak Tatra mountains.

He told them that after the avalanche, he had opened his car window and tried to dig his way out.

But as he dug with his hands, he realised the snow would fill his car before he managed to break through.

He had 60 half-litre bottles of beer in his car as he was going on holiday, and after cracking one open to think about the problem he realised he could urinate on the snow to melt it, local media reported.

He said: “I was scooping the snow from above me and packing it down below the window, and then I peed on it to melt it. It was hard and now my kidneys and liver hurt. But I’m glad the beer I took on holiday turned out to be useful and I managed to get out of there.”

Parts of Europe have this week been hit by the heaviest snowfalls since 1941, with some places registering more than ten feet of snow in 24 hours.

Douglas Adams lives on through space …

Posted to SlashDot earlier: “MSNBC is reporting that an asteroid has been named after Douglas Adams of Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy fame. Fittingly, the asteroid carried the provisional designation 2001 DA42, thus commemorating the year of his untimely death, containing his initials, and incorporating the famous answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe, and everything. This seems like a fitting tribute to me.”

New invention can see through walls: Troy Hurtubise has done the seemingly impossible with his newest invention and defied all known rules of physics, he says.

The Angel Light—Hurtubise claims the concept came to him in a recurring dream—can reportedly see through walls, as if there was no barrier at all.

The Sound of Music

Last night we went to see Dvořák Symphony no. 8 performed by the Alabama Symphony Orchestra. This is the first time I have been able to go in years … I had a great time! I have always loved the symphony and the Alys Stephens Center at UAB is a great arena for appreciating music … the sound quality is excellent!

Jim’s mom had gotten the tickets from a friend … these things are pricey! Single tickets (i.e. only one event) are $50 each for the good seats … the “good seats” being where we were last night: first row of the A Balcony. Season tickets will run you around a grand for two people, depending on what package you get … plus there’s the “donations” … if you donate you get special perks like discounts, access to special events, and your name in each of the concert event program books. *rolls eyes* Birmingham’s Finest Snoots! :D

If anything, they’re fun for watching the sort of people that come to these things. ;)

Someone had asked me earlier about the burner I got from Jim for Christmas, and I forgot all about posting until just now when I was looking for the firmware upgrade for it. It’s a Lite-On SOHW-1633S (as seen here, only black instead) — 16X4X/8X4X/16X/2.4DL+48X24X48X DVD-Dual Drive. mmmmmmm … can you say SECK-SEE?!? :)

Yeah, I’m giddy with excitement too. :D I can’t wait until I can get some of the newer 8Gb DVD-R’s and have some fun. ;)

eBay Banned?

GamesUG passed on a quick note in the LunarForums asking for an eBay boycott the week of February 18th. This comes in protest from a recent fee hike announcement the auction company made recently. A website called Power Sellers Unite has been promoting the strike, working to raise awareness of the price changes. An online petition to eBay can be found here.

The fee hikes range from a 60-percent jump in the subscription rate for the 200,000 plus shop keepers who run eBay stores (from $9.95 to $15.95 a month) to a doubling of the cost of listing items for 10 days (to 40 cents an item from 20 cents).

Why is eBay doing this? Simple … because it can.

Does this remind you of anyone?

Lord help us, please.
